Jews, Christians and Prophecies of Muhammad

More Muhammadan Inconsistencies Exposed

A common tactic that Muhammadan polemicists employ against Christians is to cite disbelieving rabbis and/or disbelieving liberal biblical scholars to undermine the use of [O]ld [T]estament prophecies concerning Jesus Christ. Muslims will try to shut done any OT text cited by the [N]ew [T]estament writers or Christians in affirmation of the Deity of the Messiah and/or his vicarious death by appealing to the objections and/or interpretations of rabbinic authorities and liberal critics.

In order to keep these same Muhammadans consistent and honest, I am now going to employ their very own criterion against their belief that Muhammad is prophesied in the Holy Bible.

According to the Islamic scripture, the Judeo-Christian writings contained prophecies of Muhammad, which even the Jews and Christians were aware of, even though they tried to conceal these predictions from the Muslims:

And when there came to them (the Jews), a Book (this Qur’an) from Allah confirming what is with them [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)], although aforetime they had invoked Allah (for coming of Muhammad Peace be upon him) in order to gain victory over those who disbelieved, then when there came to them that which they had recognised, they disbelieved in it. So let the Curse of Allah be on the disbelievers. S. 2:89 Hilali-Khan

Those to whom We gave the Scripture (Jews and Christians) recognise him (Muhammad or the Ka’bah at Makkah) as they recognise their sons. But verily, a party of them conceal the truth while they know it – [i.e. the qualities of Muhammad which are written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)]. S. 2:146 Hilali-Khan

Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e. Muhammad) whom they find written with them in the Taurat (Torah) (Deut, xviii, 15) and the Injeel (Gospel) (John xiv, 16) – he commands them for Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained); and forbids them from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); he allows them as lawful At-Taiyibat [(i.e. all good and lawful) as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.], and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khaba’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.), he releases them from their heavy burdens (of Allah’s Covenant), and from the fetters (bindings) that were upon them. So those who believe in him (Muhammad), honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Qur’an) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful. S. 7:157 Hilali-Khan

And (remember) when ‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: “O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah unto you confirming the Taurat [(Torah) which came] before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed. But when he (Ahmed i.e. Muhammad) came to them with clear proofs, they said: “This is plain magic.” S. 61:6 Hilali-Khan

As a result of the Quran’s assertion, Muslims have rushed to the Holy Bible in order to find these alleged predictions of their prophet. The passages that are typically cited by these Muhammadans include the following: Genesis 17:20; Deuteronomy 18:15-19; 33:2; Psalm 84:4-6; Song of Songs 5:16; Isaiah 21:13-17; 29:12; 42:1-13; Habakkuk 3:3; John 1:19-25; 14:16-17, 26; 15:26; 16:7-15.

With the foregoing in perspective, my challenges are very simple.

  • Quote any rabbinic source that interpreted any of the OT texts as prophesying an Arabian prophet from the seed of Ishmael through his son Kedar.
  • Cite any Christian authority, whether ancient or modern, that explained any of the NT references as predicting the coming of an Arabian prophet/messenger from the line of Kedar the son of Ishmael.
  • Reference any reputable liberal scholar of the Holy Bible who believes that any of the foregoing biblical citations prophesy the advent of an Ishmaelite prophet who would arise in Mecca.

If the Muslims fail to answer all of my challenges then consistency demands that they reject the Quran and renounce Muhammad since this is the very method they employ to denounce the OT passages which the NT authors and/or Christians have cited as messianic prophecies fulfilled in the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.
